Our 20th Annual Charity Awards Nite was held on Friday, 25th January 2013 at 6.00 pm at Hotel Savera, RK Salai, Chennai. For the past three years TANKER has used this special night as a platform to recognise and appreciate the efforts of professionals working tirelessly to improve the lives of people, especially the underprivileged with kidney and other disease.

The Krishnan Ang TANKER Foundation Endowment Lecture was delivered by Ms. Nancy Spaeth, a kidney patient since 1959 who more than exemplifies the strength of the human spirit and its ability to supervene life's obstacles. Her lecture was on "A Good Life with Kidney Disease".The La Renon TANKER Foundation For the Sake of Honour Award given to an individual who has done exemplary work in his or her field was awarded to Ms. Nancy Spaeth.The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, a citation and a gold medallion.
The Muthoot M. George Memorial TANKER & Kerala Kidney Research Foundation Young Investigator Awardfor outstanding research done in the field of Nephrology in India was awarded to Ms. Shruti D. Dave, M.Sc,Ahmedabad for her research into "Transplantation Tolerance".The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 2,00,000/-, a citation and a gold medallion.
The Renny Abraham TANKER Foundation Love for Service Award for a medical doctor who has gone beyond the call of duty in serving the underprivileged was awarded to Dr. H.L. Trivedi, F.R.C.P.(C), D.Sc., Prof. & Director, Institute of Kidney Diseases & Research Centre (IKDRC) Institute of Transplantation Sciences (ITS), Ahmedabad. One of the most distinguished achievements of his life is his breath-taking invention of developing insulin-making stem cells in the lab with which he has treated diabetics. The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, a citation and a gold medallion.
The K.Venkatanarayana TANKER Foundation Awareness Award was presented to two individuals for creating awareness of any disease, mental, physical and social Dr. VijayaBharathiRangarajanB.Sc,(Hons), MBA(Canada), BDS, of CANSTOP - "Counselling and awareness to Cancer-Affected patients, their families and friends".The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-, a citation and a gold medallion Mrs. Ann Gonsalvez BA. CAIIB - "Creating awareness of a debilitating illness through the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India". The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-, a citation and a gold medallion. The Ashok Sankaralingam TANKER Foundation Patient Endowment - One year dialysis support given for an under privileged deserving patient with kidney failure. The awardees were Mr. Rajendiran-Kilpauk Unit, Mrs. Jennifer- Ambattur Unit and Mrs.Muthayee- Madurai Unit.
Book release-Dr. Georgi Abraham authored a book "The Essential Questions and Answers in Nephrology"The book was released by our chief guest Mr. Mr. David Holly during the occasion.
SPASTN (Spastic Society of Tamilnadu) empowers and enables disabled people. The students of SPASTIN presented an outstanding dance performance to commemorate our Republic Day on the following day.
We had a special invitee for REN 2013, Dr. V. Ramdoss from Seychelles. Dr. Ramdoss is an astute medical practitioner. He completed his degree in medicine rom Thanjavur Medical College and post graduate diploma in Orthopedics at Madras Medical College. He was always caring, compassionate and empathetic throughout his life. After listening to the activities of the TANKER, during the presentation a spontaneous announcement came from Dr. Ramdoss, i.e his desire to donate Rs. 10. 0 Lakhs for TANKER. All Trustees and Members of TANKER gratefully acknowledge his donation and all are very much thankful for his humane gesture.
