Our 21st Annual Charity and Awards Nite was held on Friday, 25th January 2014 at 6.00 pm at Hotel Savera, RK Salai, Chennai. For the past three years TANKER has used this special night as a platform to recognise and appreciate the efforts of professionals working tirelessly to improve the lives of people, especially the underprivileged with kidney and other disease.

Our Chief Guest Sri. V. Shankar, S I E S Group of Institutions and Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai, presented the Awards.


The Krishnan Ang TANKER Foundation Endowment Lecture by Dr. Deqo Eden Mohamed daughter of Dr. Hawa Abdi. Dr.Hawa Abdi Diblawe, a Somali Human Rights Activist and Physician. She is the Founder and Chairperson of the Dr. Hawa Abdi Foundation (DHAF), a non-profit organization, which has provided support and relief to thousands of women and children in Somalia. Her lecture was on "Keeping Hope Alive”. The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, a citation and a gold medallion.


The Muthoot M. George Memorial TANKER & Kerala Kidney Research Foundation Young Investigator Award for outstanding research done in the field of Nephrology in India was awarded to Dr. Ashok Kumar Yadav for his research into “Immune dysfunction, inflammation and atherosclerosis in patients with chronic kidney disease ". The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 2,00,000/- a citation and a gold medallion.


The Renny Abraham TANKER Foundation Love for Service Award for a medical doctor who has gone beyond the call of duty in serving the underprivileged was awarded to Dr. Sai Lakshmi M.B.B.S. D.Ch D.N.B, a pediatrician who has given up mainstream practice to start EKAM Foundation, which helps underprivileged sick children with their medical treatment costs. The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, a citation and a gold medallion.


The K.Venkatanarayana TANKER Foundation Awareness Award to two individuals for creating awareness of any disease, mental, physical and social. Dr. Janak K.Nathan M.D. Neurology - Chief Coordinator for India and Asia for the ‘Purple Day’ epilepsy awareness programme in association with Anita Kaufmann Foundation, USA and Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia, Canada. He and his team from Mumbai have been conducting epilepsy camps and training village workers to identify and refer them to the camps. The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, a citation and a gold medallion.


The Ashok Sankaralingam TANKER Foundation Patient Endowment - for 3 Patients


There were a comedy skit and Dance programme by students of Sri Arunodayam Charitable Trust empowers and enables disabled children.
