TANKER Foundation

INAUGURATION OF FREE DIALYSIS UNIT AT RETERI,CHENNAI
JOINT PROJECT OF ROTARY CLUB OF CHENNAI TOWERS, GREATER CHENNAI CORPORATION AND TANKER FOUNDATION


 

Rotary Club of Chennai Towers (RCCT) as part of its continuing activities in the area of Community Services and Health Services has set up a 10 bedded Dialysis facility to provide affordable dialysis Services to the economically challenged at the Greater Chennai Corporation's Urban Primary Health Center, Retteri.This unit will be managed and run by TANKER Foundation.

RCCT and Greater Chennai Corporation have supported the project by funding the complete infrastructure. TANKER Foundation was established in 1993 for serving the underprivileged with kidney ailments. TANKER Foundation has meaningfully contributed to healthcare, research, training, creating awareness, conduct medical camps for early detection and advocacy connected to kidney disease.

The unit was inaugurated on 27th August 2018 at 11 am by our Chief Guest Mr. P. Madhusudhan Reddy IAS, Deputy Commissioner (Health), Greater Chennai Corporation and IPDG Rtn. Srinivasan,our Guest of Honour.


 

 

Dr. Georgi, Founder Trustee TANKER Foundation thanked the Greater Chennai Corporation, Rotary Club of Chennai Towers (RCCT) and TANKER Staff and emphasised the need for dialysis units as more and more people were getting into renal faliure.

Mrs. Latha Kumaraswami, Managing Trustee TANKER Foundation gave an update about the Foundation.TANKER was started in a small way by like minded people 25 years ago. Upto today, TANKER has provided 252,798 free and subsidized dialysis for 1293 patients,and also given financial support of Rs. 161 Lakhs to 2964 patients.At present TANKER runs 6 dialysis centres with 76 machines and helps 406 patients with the help if the CMCHIS,Rotary clubs,Greater Chennai Corporation and other valuable donors. TANKER has conducted awareness programmes for over 1.6 Lakhs and screening camps for 26700 people. This will be the 7th Centre for TANKER.

Mr. P. Madhusudhan Reddy, IAS Deputy Commissioner (Health), Greater Chennai Corporation said that Greater Chennai Corporation was happy to be tying up with RCCT and TANKER Foundation to offer free dialysis for the needy. He also said that they were going to open similar dialysis centers in Valasaravakkam, Thiruvotriyur and Perungudi.

Rtn. Gopal of Rotary Club of Chennai Towers said that they had raised over Rs. 1 Crore towards the center for all equipment including Dialysis Machines, Lift, RO Plant, Generator, Air conditioners and cots.
