The 6th World Kidney Day was observed on 10th March, 2011 this year. The focus this year was on PROTECT YOUR KIDNEYS - SAVE YOUR HEART. This is an initiative of IFKF (International Federation of Kidney Foundations) of which TANKER is a part.
Every year TANKER conducts various activities to highlight OUR AMAZING KIDNEYS so that more people may be made aware of this dreaded disease.
Our Advisory Member and Awareness Coordinator Mrs.Rajalakshmi Ravi organised the TANKER Foundation WKD Walkathon where over 500 students participated. They carried banners and placards about kidney disease. There was a young band of musicians who played during the walkathon. There were several entries for the Poster competition which was held.MMM Nursing College and Ethiraj College were among the prize winners. Dr.Prateep Philip IPS, IG Vigilance gave a very inspiring talk about kidney health and overall health. All participants were given breakfast, juice and water.
We also had a programme in the evening, where our goodwill ambassador actor Suriya attended the inauguration of annual inter-college cultural competition programme conducted by The School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University. He addressed over 1000 students and delivered the WKD message about kidney care and protection.
Caps, posters and leaflets to create more awareness of kidney disease were distributed at both events
