The Joy of Giving Week is a special week which aims to bring people, from all walks of life, together to get involved with a cause(s) of their choice. It is a concerted effort across companies, celebrities, business heads, NGOs, schools, colleges, and the general public, to create a movement of giving.
This year Joy of Giving Week was celebrated from October 2, - October 9th 2011.
TANKER's activities during the Joy of Giving Week
- Real Image very kindly came forward to show our Goodwill Ambassador Suriya’s awareness film in 43 theatres across Chennai from 20th Sept to 3rd Oct. This 30 second film is for creating awareness of kidney disease which is a silent killer.
- We participated in a unique fundraising opportunity THE BATTLE OF THE BUFFET. This event completely sponsored by Oriental Cuisines brought a lavish spread of the buffets by top 5 star restaurants from Chennai, on 9h October 2011 in Chennai Trade Center, Nandambakkam. TANKER raised over 17 lakhs through this event.
- We gave our volunteering support to the PDSICON 2011 which was a conference marking the 20th year of Peritoneal Dialysis (an alternative to haemodialysis) in India. TANKER's Founder Trustee Dr. Georgi Abrahram pioneered CAPD in India.
- We conducted kidney disease awareness programmes for students and adults where our advisory member Mrs. Rajalakshmi Ravi explained about kidney disease through a powerpoint presentation and an interactive session.
- This JOY OF GIVING WEEK, TANKER's Goodwill Ambassador, Suriya, came forward to have lunch with 10 people and this was auctioned through Ebay. The bidding closed on Sat 8th Oct 2011. All proceeds from the bid would go to TANKER Foundation.
